     The job took some 120 piping tradesmen, working for Bay City's Monarch Welding, putting in 50,000 hours to perform the mechanical services. Thirty massive burners firing the boilers were also installed, tied into the existing system and arranged in a towering three-story configuration by the piping tradesmen. The project also involved installation of a 48-inch manifold to route gas through three pipelines, plus the lying of more than 1,000 feet of 30 and lO-inch pipelines. "The new gas-fired units will produce power about 10% of the time, mostly at peak electrical use periods during the hottest and coldest days of the year." The newly renovated units can generate a combined 1,276 kilowatts of energy, which is enough to handle the power needs of a city of 835,000 people.
